After watching many of the advertisements in class, I realized there is a lot more to commercials than I really thought. Everyone had very different commercials, but yet all could be analyzed in a similar way. Through out this English 101 class, It has really opened my eyes to all the different ways you can analyze a text. My favorite commercial that played was the commercial of the animals. It was very well used because as the audience, I was completely drawn in. As a viewer, I wanted to buy the product or donate because they reeled me in very well. What you don't realize when watching this commercial on a normal daily basis, is all of this things that make it up to be so good. Things such as the sad music, the famous movie star, and the sad videos of cats and dogs that they show to make you feel upset. It would of made anyone feel sympathy for those animals after watching that commercial. The argument was very simple because it made you feel really guilty and want to donate. There argument was that because these animals are being harmed, you should donate the extra cause so they can help them survive.
The object of the advertisement is to pull you in and make you want to buy whatever the product really is. For an example, me and Jackies' commercial was about how pepsi is promoted by the hottest celebrity (Britney Spears) to con people into to trying to buy pepsi. The significance of this is that at that time, Christina Aguilara was promoting the opposite rival which was coke. The main argument was that coke is better than pepsi. The thesis for ours was "the use of Britneys Spears as an advertisement agent appears to the audience in a stronger way than a commercial actor would" which means that they used Britney as the center focus of there commercial so that viewers would that if someone as great as her is drinking there product that they should too. I thought it was good in the animal commercial when they said that it is an emotional appeal because it really tries "tugging at your heart strings" making you want to donate the money to the foundation. The popular celebrity they used most definitely detracted from the argument, just like Britney Spears did for ours.
The Britney spears commercial had a mix of Ethos as well because Britney Spears was such an idol, it was almost as if she was trusted by her fans and some one worth listening to. It also was very emotional because her hardcore fans feel like that can connect with her on a different level. It was emotional also because of the cute smile she flashes in between parts in the commercial and her young bubbly self making it seem like she doesn't even try hard. Fans like to feel comfortable and feel as if they connect with her so well, than pepsi might be a great choice.

Journal #5
When comparing Sloan's text in the WR to the hyper text version, I realized how much easier and to the point the hypertext was. Everyone might have there own opinion, but when clicking on the link I immediately started reading the short paragraphs knowing that it would be a quick read for me to get the central idea. When reading the paragraphs, I would glance at the picture that the author had posted which helped me as a reader picture it in my head. Not only get an idea of what she is talking about, but also to get the quick facts that you may want to know. The hypertext version was not as detailed and descriptive as the text in the WR, and left out many details that made the story sound more interesting. The hyper text is short and precise, allowing there audience to have a better understand for what the link is really about. Sloan's text in "What They Say about Glass Houses" was lengthier and gave readers a better understanding of characters, there surroundings, and time period. The author uses descriptive language and detail in order to make it a put- together story with a beginning, middle and end. A story is automatically going to be more enjoyable if it is interesting, but if you need to go straight to the point then the hypertext version is more effective. There are pros and cons about both of the texts, but I personally liked the hypertext. It was shorter, easier, and visually helped me get a better understanding of what they were talking about. It all depends on which version is more favorable to you as a reader.
